Violinist Known as one of the youngest concertmasters in the world, violinist Wei Lu has already secured himself a successful career as an artist which is envious by many others. After three rounds of auditions, Mr. Lu was appointed the concertmaster of the Deutsches Symphony-Orchester Berlin, (former Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra) in 2004, a position which the orchestra took 17 auditions to fill. A frequent guest concertmaster of world’s elite orchestras such as the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, the Nurnberg Opera House, Seoul Philharmonic and the Asia Philharmonic Orchestra, among others, Mr. Lu has recently been invited to be the guest concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic, becoming the first Chinese ever to achieve such honor. A native of Beijing, China, Mr. Lu began violin lessons with his father at the age of three. At age nine, he was accepted by the renowned violin pedagogue Professor Yao-Ji Lin to attend the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. In 1997, after a performance heard by violinist Anne-Sophie Mutter, she personally invited Mr. Lu to become the first violinist who joins the Anne-Sophie Mutter Circle of Friends Foundation. With the support of the foundation, Mr. Lu had the opportunities to study with Professor Franco Gulli in Indiana (USA), Professor Herman Krebbers in Amsterdam (Holland), and Professor Ingolf Turban in Stuttgart (Germany). He has also been highly praised by artist such as Isaac Stern, Ruggiero Ricci, Itzhak Perlman, Salvatore Accardo, Igor Oistrakh, Ida Handel, Uto Ugi, Henry Meyer, and Yuri Bashmet. Some of the awards Mr. Lu has won while studying include the third place at the Second Tchaikovsky International Competition for Young Musicians (1995), the first prize at the Fifth China National Violin Competition (1993), and three times at the Beijing Violin Competition. Mr. Lu teaches at the Great Wall International Music Academy in Beijing during the summers, and has been named the Honorary Advisors of the Macau Youth Symphony Orchestra. Through a generous loan from a private collection in Singapore, Mr. Wei Lu plays on a late 17th century violin made by Amati. He is an artist of the Asia Pacific Arts Management Ltd. |
